I started this blog as a project to help me share my passion for food and travel with friends, family and anybody who want’s to come along for the ride. I’ll eat, drink and travel, and if all goes well, I’ll write about it.
I grew up in a small isolated town in Northern Canada called Happy-Valley Goose Bay, located in Labrador which is on the North-East corner of the country. It was a great place to grow up and our diet was focused around local game, fish, what we could grow ourselves in the sandy soil and evidently, shipped in produce. With short hot summers and long cold winters, most produce had to be shipped in from the outside, so we relied on a lot of local delicacies for food. What we could gather such as berries and what we caught ourselves such as game and fish usually found itself on our dinner plate. Within my family we regularly ate caribou, moose, partridge, cod fish, seal, rabbit, trout, salmon, squid and anything else that could be caught in the wild. These are some of the best and purest ingredients I have ever eaten and my parents were great traditional cooks. Smoked arctic char heated in the oven and served over cream cheese and crackers was one of my favorites, not to mention bottled wild seal paired with Australian Shiraz – to die for, and lets not forget hot moose pie with dark, rich, moist moose meat and a crispy crust made from scratch. Preservative and chemical free and full of flavor, this food was really satisfying – and still is.
After Labrador I looked to the world for my next meal. I spent time living throughout Canada where I worked in wine in Toronto, lived in culinary driven Quebec City, ate stampede breakfasts in Calgary and spent most of my university days in Antigonish, Nova Scotia where the lobster is so fresh and delicious that it melts in your mouth. Moving and traveling were driven by my passion for food. For example, I once drove 11 hours overnight from Toronto to Chicago just to try Uno’s original deep dish pizza and had to be back to work on Monday morning in Toronto. I didn’t sleep much that weekend, but the pizza was worth the trip.
From Canada I branched out even more. I spent a couple of months working in South Africa where I had the opportunity to try the local game and hit the wine region. I also worked in Cambodia and the food was so affordable and very well done – a lot to do with the French influence.
I currently live in Melbourne, Australia where I work and travel as much as possible. I love the proximity to Asia here and the opportunity to travel to places that are so far away from Canada such as South-East Asia, New Zealand and the South Pacific Islands. The food in these regions is always a surprise, but usually excellent.
I also love this city. Melbourne is a food lovers dream. There is a strong push for organic, local ingredients and things are done right here. Produce is fresh, beef is juicy, seafood is abundant and the restaurant scene is ever emerging. I really do love it here.
I know that I’ll continue to eat and travel. I’ll also continue to share my experiences of people doing food right, the way it should be.

I wanted to let you know about a new BBQ Rib Eating Competition we have just launched.
Starting from the 24th of February and over the next 6 weeks we will be holding BBQ Rib Eating contest once a week. With the 6 finalists to battle it out for the $1000 cash prize on Monday 7th of April.
The competition is simple, eat as many American BBQ Ribs as you can in 35 minutes plus a side of coleslaw (coleslaw must be fully consumed to qualify).
Entry fee is $99 and the winner on each night will get their money fully refunded. Entry into the final is also free.
